The slumping economy has hurt charitable giving in the ArkLaTex, but two -- the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission and the Highland Center -- say they won't let it impact the Thanksgiving meals they provide.
The Highland Center's said its Thanksgiving blessing baskets are typically stocked with inexpensive items, so they don't feel the pinch as much. On Saturday, 750 boxes full of food will be given out to the needy.
The Rescue Mission said their donations are down by a fourth but they will stretch whatever donations they do get. The Rescue Mission provides approximately 1,500 meals on Thanksgiving.
