A 199-foot cross in front of Central Assembly of God church on Highway 80 in Bossier Parish has now been erected.
The church's pastor said he expects the cross to be lit in three weeks. It will also feature a live Nativity scene around Christmas.
A Star of David will also be installed at the foot of the cross.
Work was delayed a month due to all the rainfall in October.
The church is on a hill just east of Bossier City and Louisiana Downs racetrack.
By keeping the cross at 199 feet, the church does not have to comply with federal regulations for structures that might interfere with aircraft.

THE CHURCH IS HERE TO SERVE, ACCORDING TO GOD'S WORD. SERVICE MEANS HELPING THOSE IN NEED; ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE ABLE TO HELP. REALLY, HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL BE HELPED BY SEEING THE CROSS? DO THEY EVEN NO WHAT THE SYMBOL STANDS FOR OR MEANS?

That would have fed alot of hungry people. But that's really something to be proud of. Going to be hard to keep up with the Jones now. Hope nobody has to hang from it, That's a pretty good drop.

Yes, it's beautiful and meaningful, but how many parishioners had homes damaged by the flood who could really use part of the almost million dollars it took to build this cross?
Do the people serve the church, or does the church serve the people?

Why the Star of David? I thought the Assembly of God was a Christian church.

How many people could have been fed, clothed, educated and all around helped with that money? How many mission trips could that money have funded?
I don't see that gaudy thing as a symbol of my beliefs as a Christian. I see it as a huge waste of church funds. Do they really think it will bring people to Jesus? I see more people saying "what a bunch of pretentious jerks".
