About Dr. Williams

Dr. Charles S. Williams, a native of New Orleans, is married to Dr. Andretta Porter-Williams and has 3 children: J'Mar, Blaire, and Devin.

Dr. Williams began his Pre-doctorial education at Xavier University of Louisiana where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Soon after, he continued his education by obtaining his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry.

Upon matriculation from Meharry, he returned to New Orleans and practiced General Dentistry for three years until his acceptance into the Periodontology program at Boston University School of Dental Medicine. While attending Boston University, Dr. Williams completed his Periodontal/ Implant training and earned his Masters in Oral Biology, investigating the effects of cytokines on whole blood sample of patients diagnosed with severe periodontitis.

Dr. Williams returned to New Orleans in 1998, opened the Centre for Oral Health and accepted an appointment as an Associate Professor in the Department of Periodontics at LSUHSC School of Dentistry instructing pre-doctorial and graduate students.
.
The practice of Periodontics involves the saving of the teeth through surgical procedures that include but not limited to surgical debridement, bone grafting, tissue grafting, implant placement, forced eruption, sinus lifts etc. There are many facets to attaining that perfect smile and the first objective should be to make sure that your smile will be long lasting.

As the first and only African -American Periodontist in the state of Louisiana his focus is on the overall health of the patient. As with many debilitating and often silent diseases periodontitis activity is higher in the African-American community when compared to other ethnicities especially in children. Gum infections are implicated in pre-term low birth rate of babies, increased blood sugar levels in diabetics and the rise in the percentage of male and females that have suffered cardiovascular episodes. Bacteria that originate in the mouth if not removed can enter the blood and affect many other organs these foreign bacteria have been found in blood clots that have caused heart attacks and in the amniotic fluid that surrounds the baby before a mother delivers.

Dr. Williams is a past president of the Louisiana Society of Periodontist. He is an active member of the American Academy of Periodontics, Louisiana Society of Periodontics, Southwest Society of Periodontics, Northwest Louisiana Dental Association, and the American Dental Association. He has lectured in the United States and abroad. He currently resides in Shreveport, Louisiana after relocating from New Orleans, due to hurricane Katrina. His practice is located at 460 Ashley Ridge Blvd. Ste 600 Shreveport, LA 71106, 318-868-4188
