Juveniles, fireworks suspected in laundry room fire

Fireworks were not contained to the riverfront on Saturday night.

At 9:40 p.m., the Shreveport Fire Department was dispatched to Villa Marquis II apartments on Valley View Drive for a reported laundry room fire. Firefighters arrived at 9:44 p.m. to find smoke coming from the front door and flames visible through the window. They extinguished the fire in less than ten minutes. Officials estimate that approximately 50 percent of the building was damaged by fire, but there was no damage to any apartment buildings.

Witnesses told fire officials that two teenagers were seen entering the laundry room and tossing fireworks into a trash container. Fire investigators are looking for suspects.

There were no reported injuries.

Another high-profile death

Authorities are trying to unravel the relationship between slain former NFL quarterback Steve McNair and a woman found dead near him in his Nashville, Tennessee, condominium.

The former MVP was found dead on a sofa yesterday with multiple gunshot wounds, with the 20-year-old woman on the floor with a single gunshot wound. Authorities say they're not looking for any suspects. Autopsies are planned for today.

McNair's brother says family members are expected to travel to Nashville to be with McNair's wife, Mechelle. He calls his brother "the greatest person in the world." He says the former Tennessee Titan loved kids and gave back to his community.

Another friend tells The AP that McNair was a wonderful person who "did not deserve this."

Police say the woman found at McNair's home was a waitress in Nashville. McNair had opened a restaurant near the Tennessee State University campus last month. It has now become a small memorial to McNair, with flowers, candles and notes placed by the door.

Showers and thunderstorms on Sunday

A few showers and thunderstorms developed overnight in Southern Arkansas and Oklahoma. There is no severe weather as of now, but a few stronger thunderstorms are possible.  Expect heavy rain, lightning and brief gusty winds with these storms.

These storms developed ahead of a weak cold front that will continue to move south throughout the day.  That will cause the showers to move south, affecting areas along Interstate 20 by this afternoon. Temperatures will be much cooler today, with highs in the low 90s.
