SHREVEPORT, La. – Stellar shooting led the University of Dallas to a 70-56 win over the Centenary men’s basketball team - marking the third straight loss for the Gents, who fell to 7-10 overall and 3-5 in SCAC action. Dallas improves to 11-6 and 6-2 in conference play.
The Crusaders, who also tallied 30 points in the paint, hit 48 percent of its shots from the field, including a 43.8 clip from behind the arc.
Drew Assinesi posted a game-best 14 points in the win, including three, 3-pointers, along with Mark Promberger.
Brooks Pawsat paced the Gents with 12 points - his first game in double figures on the campaign - while Donovan Williams added 11 points. Jonathan Blount rounded out the double-digit producers with 10 points while pulling down a team-best seven rebounds.
Leading by five points at the intermission, the Blue and White quickly pushed the lead out to double figures, behind a 10-4, less than five minutes into the second stanza at 45-34. UD didn’t surrender the double-digit the remainder of the way reaching its largest lead with less than two minutes to play at 70-53.
The Maroon and White led by as many as six points in the first half, controlling the tempo until the final three minutes when a pair of free-throws by Tanner Bruffey put the Crusaders up 29-28. Bruffey finished with 11 points.
The Gents shot 36.4 percent from the field and connected on 31.3 percent of its shots from behind the arc.
Dallas converted on 84.6 percent of its shots from the charity stripe while the Gents hit just under 58 percent for the night.
Kym Malone added 10 points to round out the double figure producers for the Crusaders.
Centenary returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 26 as the Gents travel to Austin College. Tip is slated for 3 p.m.
