Heupel Gets Text From Fellow OU Assistant:We're Going To SEC
The Big XII lost one member officially Thursday when Colorado accepted an invitation to the Pac 10 conference. While waiting for Texas or Texas A&M or Nebraska to drop the next cleat, the Oklahoma Sooners may be the school that packs their bags next.
I asked Independence Bowl Hall of Honor inductee and current Oklahoma Quarterbacks Coach, Josh Heupel about the Sooners status and where they may end up playing beginning with the 2012 season, "You're asking the wrong guy. I've got no part of the decision process but I think coaches across the country are anxious to see how everything unfolds and if, and what happens and what changes and where they're going to be playing football here in the future," Heupel said.
Minutes later, after the media had departed East Ridge Country Club's Dining Room, the sixty or so attendees watched a highlight reel of Heupel and then the quarterback for the 1999 Independence Bowl Sooners made his acceptance speech. Upon completion, the emcee for the evening, Tony Tagliavore, a former sports anchor in Shreveport asked Heupel about Oklahoma's future in regards to conference re-alignment. Heupel said, "It's funny you ask. I got a text during dinner from our running backs coach that we're going to the SEC."
Is that rock-solid, lock it in the vault information? No. But it is certainly information from someone who should be rather well-informed on the Sooners whereabouts.
