SHREVEPORT, La. - The LSU Shreveport Pilots men's basketball opened up at The Dock on Tuesday night to a loud and rowdy crowd helping the Pilots to a 92-87 overtime win over the visiting Belhaven Blazers giving Head Coach Kyle Blankenship his first win at a place he used to play and coach as an assistant.
LSUS (2-1) shot 50-percent on a night where all five starters finished in double figures with Rodney Milum leading all scorers with 21 points and three from beyond the arc and a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line.
The forwards were just as dominating as Milum with Isaac Reid draining 19 points with eight rebounds while the dependable Rydell Harris with his third double of the season in as many games with 18 points and 12 boards. Aaron Jones tossed in 20 while Mark Politte finished with a dozen.
The Pilots certainly helped themselves at the charity stripe making 21 of 26 attempts where 17 of 20 were made in the second half and OT as the Pilots finished at 80-percent including making their final four from the line in overtime to pull away from the Blazers.
Belhaven (4-4) shot 47-percent and collected more rebounds than the Pilots 39-37 but the boards were spread throughout with only one had 10 or more as Deon Bedford pulled down 11. The Blazers themselves finished with five in double figures as Jonathan Ratliff led the visitors with 17.
The Pilots will travel to ETBU after Thanksgiving for Monday, November 26, at 7:30 p.m. The next game at The Dock will be a RRAC affair with Langston at 4 p.m.
