Scam artists prey on downtown Shreveport parkers

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La. -

Last Friday, Robyn Blaylock and some co-workers ventured into downtown Shreveport for a night on the town.  She parked her car at a lot on Spring and Travis Streets.  It's owned by System Parking, Incorporated.  Blaylock says when she pulled in, there was no one manning the guard shack, so she parked and headed out.  When she went to get her car the next morning, she found a citation underneath her windshield wiper.  It was for not paying the $3 parking fee.  Blaylock says there were other cars still in the lot, and a group of men standing around.  She says when she was about to leave one of the men came up to her car and asked for the money.  She says the man wanted a $30 fine for parking without paying.  She told the man she didn't have any money and would pay the fee later.  But she says the man was very adamant and tried to get into her car.  The door was locked and he couldn't get in.  She says the man was not wearing anything to identify himself with System Parking, Incorporated.  The company's regional manager Danny Fincher says it was not one of his workers.  He says they're not allowed to collect money.  That's why there's an automated collection machine.  Fincher says this is the first time he's heard of others taking advantage of people parking in his lot.
