ArkLaTex Made: Do Good Store

Posted: Updated:
BOSSIER CITY, La. (KTBS) -

There's a new store open at the Louisiana Boardwalk and its mission is simple, to do good.

We've all seen pictures of kids starving, living in filth and we've all wanted to help. Lots of us have, but Justin Haigler said maybe there's a better way.

"They're looking for a chance to expose their products to more people. To take care of their families, more meals, more water but not just charity."

No, it's a business started by a woman in Ethiopia named Bethlehem.

"I started this company 6 years ago to give people an opportunity to work."

Today that shoe company employs hundreds of Ethiopians, making a very good shoe and available only here.

"This is the only retail location in the United States."

This is the Do Good Store, it's in the middle of the Louisiana Boardwalk but it's unlike any other store in America because all of the profits, goes somewhere else.

"Not just a little bit of the money, all of it goes back to those who need the most help."

Like Josephine in Ruwanda.

"I know Josephine, she makes all these different kinds of products."

This young girl coming out of the sex trade in Congo.

"They are given a job so they have value and worth at the same time creating beautiful jewelry."

Jewelry, purses, dresses and Christmas ornaments and t-shirts, all mae by people in the 3rd world, not looking for a hand out but a hand up.

And they have a friend in Justin Haigler and the Simple Church. Two weeks ago, they opened up the Do Good Store, a place where you can buy some really great gifts.

"The water bottles go to dig water wells in a country that doesn't have clean water."

And they do good at the same time.

"It's helping children, it's helping families, helping nations and it's helping us."
