Businessman Gus Mijalis Hospitalized

Gus Mijalis, a Shreveport businessman and confidante of former Louisiana governor Edwin Edwards, is hospitalized in serious condition but stable at a medical center in North Carolina. Mijalis is in the intensive care unit of Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C., a hospital spokesman said. He is suffering from heart problems, said a friend. Mijalis has been involved in various business interests over the years. His family owns Farmers Seafood in Shreveport. His close relationship with Edwards made him one of the state's most powerful people during Edwards' four terms.
