Bernie Tiede speaks about movie

Behind the pulpit, Bernie Tiede was considered a devout christian, singer and preacher, but at home he lived with a dark secret. In 1996, the 39-year old shot 81-year old widow Majorie Nugent four times in the back with her own rifle.

He placed her lifeless body inside a freezer. It was nine months before family members came looking for her. "I don't even remember what was going on in my head, but I just knew I had to give her a proper funeral. I do know that," said Tiede.

Tiede was the funeral director for Nugent's late-husband's funeral. It's there the pair began a relationship and traveled around the world. He describes the millionaire widow as being difficult and controlling. "I tried to leave on several occasions and she would just really run a rampage."

Their destructive and deadly relationship is now portrayed on the silver screen as a dark comedy with actors Jack Black, Shirley McLaine and Matthew McConaughey. "I'm very honored in one respect. I hate that it had to be like this, but Jack Black came to see me, we had a big time," said Tiede.

In the months following the murder, he continued preaching at the local Methodist church and spending millions of Nugent's fortune.

For the past 15 years,Tiede's been in prison where he says he's remorseful, not a cold-hearted killer.

I guess something just snapped that day, I don't know even remember. It's hard to go back because it's just so against everything I do, "said Tiede.

Tiede is being held at the Telford Unit at New Boston and will be eligible for parole in 2027.
