Superintendents introduced to new security plan

East Texas superintendents were introduced Wednesday to a school security plan that 5,000 schools across the country have implemented at their campuses.

John Michael Keyes' was the guest speaker at the Texas Region 8 superintendents meeting.

He created a campus security plan after his daughter, Emily, was killed in a school shooting in 2006.

His foundation sponsors the safety method called, "Standard Response Protocal."

The plan includes four actions: Lockout, lockdown, evacuate and shelter.

Keyes says the materials are on the foundation website, are easy to follow, and provided at no charge.

"They can implement this program in their schools, in their districts and partner with law enforcement to make it happen," said Keyes.
