Downtown Development Authority receives grant for art district market study

A new grant will help the Downtown Development Authority look deeper into the future art district called Shreveport Common.

The $25,000 grant will come from the Community Foundation for a market study. It will go towards a study that will look into what people want out of the art district and the feasibility of it actually coming true.

The study will cost more than the grant, but the DDA knows it will get the ball rolling.

“We weren't going to be able to find the money in our budget, and Shreveport Regional Arts Council wasn't going to be able to find money in their budget,” explained Liz Swaine, the executive director of the DDA. “With this money to get us started, we can definitely make it work.”

The Shreveport Common art district will be a nine block section in the western part of downtown. It will be centralized around the intersections of Crockett, Common, Milam and Texas streets.
