SHREVEPORT, La -
City and parish officials came together for their quarterly meeting Friday to discuss an issue facing all local branches of government. The topic is funding for the truancy center for Shreveport. It's an idea that the Caddo Commission is championing and is asking each branch of government for $60,000 dollars for the project. The combined funds would allow funding for a center in Shreveport to tackle student truancy.
City council officials say their budget won't allow them to support the project. School board officials say they would have to vote on the issue in their next meeting. Clay Walker is the Director for Juvenile services for Caddo parish. Walker said, "Bottom line is budget times are tough for everybody. Budgets are tight, it's a matter in my opinion of whether or not we make it a priority."
