SPAR pool open house

Posted: Updated:

The temperature is up and people are looking to cool off. SPAR will soon have city pools open for them but safety first. It and the Shreveport Fire Department held its annual pool open house today. The event gave the public a chance to meet lifeguards and learn some general safety tips, like why and how to wear floatation devices or how to save drowning person. Firefighters explained how to spot drowning victim, like by signs of panic.

"Of course, there's going to be thrashing around," Craig Bynog with the SFD said. "Not always will somebody be hollering, gasping for breath. Any young person that's too small to be in the depth of water that they are, they need to have any eye on them."

Firefighters say the best way to save someone, especially if you can't swim, is by throwing them an object that floats and not entering the water to save them. SPAR pools open on June 4th.
