Selling North Louisiana to Chinese investors

Posted: Updated:
BATON ROUGE, La. -

A group of Chinese investors will visit Northwest Louisiana on Saturday.

They'll visit the former GM plant, as well as the port.

The chairman of China Private Investment Association wants to see if and how North Louisiana can help his country.

The group is interested in energy and agriculture.

Through a spokesman, the chairman said that is two things North Louisiana can offer.

Right now, China relies on coal to fire its plants.

Northwest Louisiana sits on the Haynesville Shale and it's natural gas resource.

Natural gas would be a cleaner energy for the Chinese.

The use of coal is also impacting the country's food supply.

Northeast Louisiana can offer corn, soybeans and rice.

This meeting in Baton Rouge was organized by Rep. Patrick Williams.

He says Shreveport is poised for growth.

The job is to now convince this group to invest in the area.
