Man arrested in Natchitoches manslaughter

NATCHITOCHES, La. -

The Natchitoches Police Department Detective Division's Violent Crimes unit is currently investigating a homicide that occurred in the 700 block of Abbie Dr. The Police Department received a call of a disturbance in the 700 block of Abbie Dr in which the caller, Mr. Ernest Lacour Jr. told police that he had a battery committed on him by a man named Christopher Robinson.

While officers were on their way to the scene, a second call came in from a citizen reporting that a reSUV had just crashed into a house at the intersection of Abbie Drive and Clarence Drive. The caller told police that the driver appeared to have been shot. When officers arrived, they determined that the two calls were related to the incident in the 700 block of Abbie Dr. The victim, Christopher Robinson, 24, was transported to the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

While investigating, officers determined that Robinson was shot one time in the upper chest area during the dispute in the 700 block of Abbie Drive. Robinson then drove around the corner where he crashed his vehicle into the house. Detectives arrested 20 year-old Russell Remo on one count of R.S. 14:31 manslaughter and placed him in the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center awaiting bond.

The investigation is considered closed with the arrest of Remo.

    A sailboat accident claimed the life of an unidentified man in his early 20's Friday evening.According to the St. Tammany Sheriff's Office, a small sailboat flipped over in Lake Pontchartrain near the mouth of Tchefuncte River around 5 p.m.Another person who was thrown from the boat was rescued, said the sheriff's office.Around 8:30 p.m., St. Tammany Sheriff's Office confirmed a body had been found.
