SHREVEPORT, La. -

With paint, a brush, and a smile, soon-to-be 7th grader Atoya sets out to express herself at Arts on
Fire. She enjoys being creative.

"I just draw for fun," she said. "it helps me express my mind and it helps me do the rest of the stuff."

this funny, talkative teen stays active. She enjoys playing sports and even works on her performance skills. Atoya aspires to be out in Hollywood one day—acting or singing.

She said her she wants to be just like performer Nicki Minaj.

"Because of all the colors and things she does. She's so interesting," she explained.

This 13-year-old also enjoys to sit down with a good book, all the while honing her acting skills.

"Every time I read, I think I'm in a movie. I really do. Like I'm acting. I'm the one acting. I'm the one that's saying the narrative. I'm the one saying the different things in the book."

while Atoya likes to escape into another life, the life she lives now is sometimes hard for her to understand.

"That's what people been telling me. Just go with the flow until something happens. And pray."

Atoya prays for her family, and for another family to invite her to be apart of theirs.

"I want an active family," she said hopefully. "I want people who love me, play with me and stuff. Play football. Go out, travel. All of that…. I really hope that somebody adopts me. And just loves me for who I am."

Atoya is ready for adoption now.  If you are interested in learning more about her or other children in the Shreveport-Bossier area in need of a forever family, contact the Department of Children and Family services at (318)676-7100.
