ArkLaTex in Depth: Reagan's Rainbow

Sutton Children's Hospital announced recently announced that they will be closing their doors for good, but memory of one little girl will forever be apart of their history.

Reagan Little passed away in 2001 after suffering from Viral Meningitis. No one could say how little seven year old Reagan contracted the deadly illness.

Gilbert Little says his daughter's death brought about the birth of Sutton Children's Hospital, named after famed Pro Golfer and good friend Hal Sutton. The hospital came to life in 2006, partnering with Christus Schumpert Hospital at St. Mary's Place.

Reagan's illness help kick start a movement to bring better pediatric physicians and healthcare to this community. Little says he is that comforted in knowing that his daughter's death saved other children's lives since Sutton Children's Hospital opened over six years ago but the closing still weighs heavily on his mind.

Hal Sutton had this to say about the closing of the children's hospital:

"Of course I am disappointed by the closing of the children's hospital, but I also understand Schumpert's position. Today's world presents all of us with many challenges that  are out of our control. I am certain Schumpert will do their best to continue to provide quality healthcare for the children of our area."

Along with Sutton Children's Hospital, Christus Health Louisiana also recently announced a restructuring plan that will close it's schumpert campus at Saint Mary's Place and will cut 200 jobs.

Officials say they will shift hospital operations to the Highland Campus which will be expanded.
