SHREVEPORT, La. -

Shreveport Police investigators have issued an arrest warrant for a man accused of committing an assault on a Shreveport Police officer Sunday night.

Just after 9:00 p.m. Sunday June 9, Shreveport Police officers were called to the intersection of West 77th Street at Dowdell Street relative to a traffic stop. Officers arriving at the call were notified by officer Joshua Cordell that a male suspect who had been driving a four door Chevrolet sedan, fled from officer Cordell who was attempting to stop the vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver of the vehicle reportedly pulled his vehicle to a stop on West 77th Street at Dowdell Street, armed himself with an assault style weapon and fled the car on foot. While fleeing, the suspect, who authorities have identified as 28 year-old Labroderick Alexander of Shreveport, reportedly turned and pointed the weapon at officer Cordell. In response, officer Cordell fired his weapon at Alexander. While uncertain, it is not believed that Alexander was struck during the ordeal. Officers saturated the area where Alexander was last seen fleeing, but were unsuccessful in their attempts to locate him. A weapon fitting the description of the type of weapon believed used in the assault on the officer was seized near the location Alexander was seen fleeing.

Detectives have pieced together evidence linking Alexander to the crime and have since issued a warrant for his arrest charging him with Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer. Alexander is to be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Labroderick Alexander is urged to contact Caddo Crime Stoppers at (318) 673-7373 or on their website at www.lockemup.org.

Drivers would have to secure dogs riding in truck beds while on interstate highways, if the Senate agrees to a bill backed by the House. The House voted 53-34 Tuesday to pass the proposal by Republican Rep. Thomas Willmott, of Kenner. Drivers could secure dogs with a crate, leash or a ventilated bed cover, under the bill. Willmott has proposed similar bills before, but they failed to garner enough support. He says he continues to push the issue to promote humane treatment of pets and public ...
