Education wins at the State House

Posted: Updated:

Louisiana lawmakers are now back home after wrapping up  the 2013 session in Baton Rouge.  When it comes to education, Louisiana won't  see as many sweeping changes as last year. The session ended with teachers getting an unexpected pay increase. Measures were also passed to make sure the voucher program continues and that teachers who are nursing are given a place and a time to express milk. One bill that didn't pass dealt with teacher evaluations. State Representative Gene Reynolds of Minden sponsored the bill but says at the last moment the bill failed to pass by 4 votes.

" While the bill didn't pass what it did was expose the problems within the evaluation system and State Superintendent John White is now working to fix the remaining issues over the summer, " says Reynolds.
