La. auditor critical of Jonesboro accounting

Posted: Updated:

The town of Jonesboro's financial records could not be audited for the 2012 fiscal year because of inadequacies in its accounting records, the Louisiana legislative auditor's office says.

The News-Star reports the audit, issued on Monday, found problems with cash control, financial reporting, capital asset management, improper accounting of traffic tickets, water and sewer collection issues, improper treatment of town vehicles, providing insurance and employee benefits to ineligible employees, improper compensation to the mayor, and insufficient effort to collect delinquent fines and forfeitures.

The audit of the Jackson Parish town was performed by the independent CPA firm of Jonald Walker III of Lake Charles.
