St. Jude helps dancer keep in step

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -

The last five years of her life have been nothing like Hillary Husband expected. As a teenager, her biggest worry was making the wrong step during a dance routine.

But April 1, 2008, she learned that she had cancer.

Hillary was rushed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, where the staff was ready and waiting to treat the cancer that was quickly spreading throughout her body.

The teenager was able to continue with her dance line activities and classes--graduating as valedictorian of her class in 2010.

Since then, she's had two more bouts with cancer and she's currently waiting for a bone marrow transplant. Hillary says her time as St. Jude has taught her the power of hope when it comes to healing a sick body.

Hillary still performs as part of the dance line at Louisiana College and she plans to become a pharmacist and one day return to St. Jude to give back to the hospital that's made a difference in her life.

The house is currently under construction in the Turtle Creek Subdivision in Benton. It's valued at $350,000 and features four bedrooms, three and a half baths and an outdoor kitchen.

Tickets bought before June 17 are eligible for the Early Bird Prize. It's a four-wheeler, courtesy of G & C Honda.

The winner of that prize will be announced in July. All ticket-holders have a chance to win the KTBS 3 St Jude Dream Home. The drawing will take place during a live broadcast on August 11.

    A person from Caddo Parish has died from West Nile Virus. The Louisiana Department of Health and Human Services confirmed the death to KTBS 3 News on Thursday afternoon. According to DHH, the victim was between 60 and 74 years of age.
