Bossier City spent $7 million on Margaritaville infrastructure

Posted: Updated:

The Margaritaville Resort Casino is expected to be boost for the local economy but wouldn't be standing without government incentives. Bossier City invested around $7 million for the casino. Larry Hanisee, the district 5 city councilman, says it was a wise investment.

"I mean, you look at the money we spent, they spent $200 million on it," Hanisee said. "I'm expecting within the next month we're going to already start seeing some revenue coming towards the city."

The casino is in Hanisee's district. He says the city spent the money on infrastructure, such as water and sewer services. They also quickly passed ordinances to help construction.

"They came to us with the plans and everything," Hanisee said. "We looked at them and everything that needed from the city all the permits, all the commitments... putting a new road in here. We helped them with that."

Hanisee says that includes the casino's driveway and two traffic circles. Major work at the Texas Street Bridge intersection was part of the deal. The city's investment could be returned within ten years, Hanisee believes, if Margaritaville's business is good.
