Bossier DA drops charges in 2011 murder investigation

BOSSIER CITY, La. -

Bossier Parish District Attorney Schuyler Marvin dropped the second degree murder charges against Michael Ray Madden Friday.

Madden was previously accused of pulling the trigger in the shooting death of James Dean Smith, 21, on July 23, 2011.

Smith was shot and killed while driving on Old Minden Road after a night at Rockin' Rodeo Club in Bossier City.

No word on why the DA dropped the charges.

    Shreveport fire crews had their hands full with a late morning fire. The blaze broke out around 11:05 a.m. on the 700 block of Turner Lane. When crews arrived on scene, they found flames coming from a window of the home.Fire crews were able to get the blaze under control within an hour.
