Texas House members back for redistricting

Posted: Updated:

The Texas House of Representatives is back in Austin to work on redistricting after holding hearings across the state.

The House is scheduled to convene Monday morning and the Redistricting Committee will likely vote on maps that afternoon.

The House is also meeting for the first time since Gov. Rick Perry added abortion restrictions, juvenile justice and transportation to the special session.

The Senate approved voting maps on Friday, adopting without change temporary maps drawn by a San Antonio federal court for the 2012 elections. Republicans want to adopt the maps as is, but Democrats complain they still don't give minorities enough power to elect candidates of their choice.

There are only eight days left in the special session, so House members will have to spring to finish on time.
