Texarkana, USA -

Filmmakers are working in downtown Texarkana shooting the remake of the movie, "The Town that Dreaded Sundown."

Starting Monday, June 17th, film crews will blocking off sections of downtown Texarkana.

Barricades will be up at the Federal Courthouse and on Broad Street.

Film crews are expected to wrap up shooting in Texarkana on Wednesday.

The original 1976 horror film was directed by Texarkana Native Charles B. Pierce.

While the majority of the film is under production is Shreveport, Location Manager Kendrick Hudson says some of the scenes will be shot in downtown Texarkana.

"It's a classic Americana look with the architecture and the buildings," said Hudson.

Texarkana, Arkansas Police Chief Bob Harrison was in the original film.

He was working off-duty security when the director surprised him with a role.

"One day he said go down to the wardrobe room and get dressed. I'm going to put you in the movies," said Chief Harrison.

The movie is based on a series of actual murders in Texarkana attributed to a man dubbed locally as the Phantom Killer, who murdered five people in 1946.

The "Phantom Killer" was never identified by law enforcement.

Chief Harrison played one of the victims.

Film crews will in Texarkana for three days, but their still keeping relatively quite about the project.

The projected release date for the MGM film has not been released.
