Six charged with Explo explosion

Posted: Updated:

It's been eight months since an explosion at Camp Minden rocked the Arklatex, and now the responsibility for that explosion falls on the shoulders of six men.

Explo co-owners David Fincher and David Smith, plant manager William Wright, Michael Kile, Lionel Koons and Todd Dietrich have all turned themselves in to authorities.

The men are charged with unlawful storage of explosives, reckless storage of explosives, failure to obtain magazine license, failure to properly mark explosive material, and failure to keep accurate inventory of the 10 million pounds of M-6 propellant found outside the company office.

State Representative Jeff Thompson says plans are now in the works to help authorities keep closer tabs on these type of facilities.

"I'm working with the state police now to craft and broaden their authority over this property so that they can get into facilities just like Camp Minden across the entire state of Louisiana and make sure those residents are secure and safe as well," said Thompson.

The indictments are the result of a state police investigation of improperly stored explosives found during an investigation of that bunker blast at Explo systems.
