Ex-Ark. lawmaker gets home confinement, fine

Posted: Updated:
LITTLE ROCK, Ark -

A judge has sentenced a former east Arkansas legislator convicted of election fraud to three years of probation, including nine months of home confinement.

Former Democratic Rep. Hudson Hallum apologized during his sentencing hearing Thursday. Hallum says he violated the trust of his constituents and that he's ready to accept the consequences.

Hallum pleaded guilty in September, along with his father and two campaign workers. Prosecutors said Hallum bribed voters and used absentee ballots to commit fraud in the 2011 election for his seat. Hallum resigned days after pleading guilty.

Hallum was fined $20,000 and ordered to perform 100 hours of community service. During his home confinement, he will only be allowed to go to work. Hallum's father, Kent Hallum, also received three years of probation and was fined $10,000.
