Natchitoches Regional Airport to burn trees cut down near airport

Posted: Updated:

People living around the Natchitoches Regional Airport might see some smoke in the air.

In order for planes to safely land, the airport had to cut trees down on the north end of one of its runways. Crews plan to burn them within the next month.

The trees had grown past FAA regulations and needed to come down.

"You can cut the tops of them off, but you've got to come back and top them off every two or three years," said Larry Cooper, airport director. "It gets very expensive."

The burning will take place on airport property and only when conditions are right.

Airport officials say don't be alarmed if you see smoke.
