Bossier Sportran Extension

BOSSIER CITY, La. -

It may be the end of the line for a proposed bus route in Bossier City. The city council recently discussed extending the route from Bossier Parish Community College for workers who walk over a mile to work at Louisiana Downs. Councilman Larry Hanisee proposed an ordinance but the proposal didn't sit well with the some members of the council. Councilman David Jones opposed the ordinance because of the added cost to the city. "We're already paying a million dollars a year to have buses running in Bossier City, out of taxpayer dollars fares don't cover it," Jones said. Councilman Don Williams offered a workable solution. "If ridership doesn't pick up for BPCC to the Downs we come back to the council and look at it and see if it's worth it and if it is worth it we may look at rider ship on another route that may not be worth it and cut it out," William's said. But despite the opposition Hanisee says it's still a good ride for residents.
"They spent almost two-hundred to spend an extra thirty thousand dollars to send it to Louisiana Downs I think is a good investment," Hanisee said. The council decided not to extend the bus route by a vote of four to three. But several councilmen did tell us they will try to re-introduce the proposal during the next budget session for the city.
