Jindal strips items from next year's $25B budget

Posted: Updated:
BATON ROUGE, La. -

Gov. Bobby Jindal has removed $4 million slated to expand a program that provides at-home services to the developmentally disabled from next year's $25 billion budget.

Jindal stripped that funding with his line-item veto power, along with other money set aside for disabled services, including for a family support program, assistive technology services and regional resource centers.

The governor released the list of his budget vetoes Friday and signed off on the remaining spending plans for the fiscal year that begins July 1.

Also cut from the budget was money for arts grants, a requirement that local emergency preparedness offices get a share of a federal emergency management grant, and funding for continued operations of certain children's health clinics.

If you drive down St Vincent Avenue you'll notice Mall St Vincent is getting a makeover. Officials say the re-investment into Mall St Vincent saved the mall from closing down which would have left the city and this neighborhood with an empty shell of a mall left behind.
