An Arkansas jury deliberating in the manslaughter trial of a former Little Rock police officer has been sent home without yet reaching a verdict.
The jury began deliberating the case of Josh Hastings about 11 a.m. Saturday and was sent home about 6 p.m. with orders to return late Sunday morning and resume deliberations.
Hastings is charged in last year's shooting death of 15-year-old Bobby Moore III outside an apartment complex. Hastings said he shot Moore as Moore drove toward him during a burglary investigation -- but prosecutors say Moore was stopping or backing away when he was shot.
Defense lawyer Bill James said Hastings acted reasonably and felt threatened. Prosecutor John Johnson said jurors should "police the police" and penalize Hastings for reckless behavior.
