NATCHITOCHES, La. -

With a glove in her hand, Brittany,12, feels right at home playing softball.

"Well I just like to catch and throw," she said. "It just gets my energy out."

She exerted a lot of energy while practicing with the Lady Demons of Northwestern State University in Natchitoches.

When she is not out running around, this pre-teen likes to read.

"I like fiction because it just makes me feel good."

Talking to people and getting to know them also makes Brittany feel good.

"It's joy to me," she said smiling. "I like to meet new people. I like to make more friends and be a nice person.

"She loves family time," explained Tammy Wilkerson, Brittany's foster mother. "We'll be sitting around and she'll say, 'Can we have family day?' And I'll say, 'Aren't we all sitting around talking and watching [TV]. So she does enjoy that."

Wilkerson knows that Brittany wants to be able to have that family time with her own forever family.

"My children, she refers to them as her brothers and sisters," said Wilkerson. "She's really looking forward to a home."

When asked what qualities she would like in her forever family, Brittany responded: "Just like love and joy and care about me. Enjoy my personality and just enjoy what I do for life."

A life that she hopes will one day include a family of her own.

If you would like to find out more information about Brittany or any of the other children looking for forever families, contact the Department of Children and Family Services at (318)676-7100.
