Texas Senate set for filibuster finale on abortion

Posted: Updated:

Texas Senate Democrats are planning to talk a sweeping package of abortion restrictions to death with a marathon filibuster.

The special legislative session ends at midnight Tuesday, and while Republicans hold the majority, Fort Worth Sen. Wendy Davis plans to deliver a 13 hour speech to block the bill from coming to a vote.

The move is possible after Democrats on Monday blocked two Republican attempts to bring the bill to the floor. Because of Texas' size and population, the wide-ranging package of anti-abortion measures would be the most stringent set of laws to impact the largest number of people in the nation.

Meanwhile, attempts to kill the abortion restrictions could also take down major transportation funding and juvenile justice bills, which Democrats support.

It appears the City of Shreveport can move forward with the most pressing bond issues without Grigsby and Associates. Instead they are using in-house staff with the assistance of bond counsel which are made up of local attorneys.
