First responders on the scene of oil rig fire in Claiborne Parish

Posted: Updated:
CLAIBORNE PARISH, La. -

Three suffered burns Friday afternoon at a Dike Oil Field Company well fire. It was located just north of Homer, Louisiana along Tiger Creek Road. Claiborne Parish Sheriff's Office says three people were taken to LSU Hospital with burns after an oil well caught fire around 4 PM. Two of those victims suffered pretty serious burns. The fire was contained by Claiborne Parish firefighters. It's cause is under investigation by the oil company.

"Well, the sheriff's office comes in and makes sure there was no foul play or wrong doing," Matt Harris, with the Claiborne Sheriff's Office, said. "It's an accidental fire. They're going to conduct their own investigation. Every company always does."

Harris says the fire was located on a mobile rig and state police were not called to the scene.
