Victim identified following I-220 fatality; multiple vehicles involved

SHREVEPORT , La -

A series of events on a local interstate claims a life.

It happened around 11p.m. Sunday near Interstate 220 and Jefferson Paige Road in Shreveport.

The victim has been identified as 51-year-old Curtis Bently of Palestine, Tx.

Authorities say Bently was driving when his vehicle struck a raised curb.

A second collision with a raised median followed near an exit ramp.

Police say after making contact with the median, the vehicle veered over the embankment and onto the shoulder of the roadway and burst into flames.

Authorities say the unidentified driver immediately exited the vehicle and took off running directly in the path of a 2010 Toyota Tacoma, driven by 23-year-old David Lynn Raney of Bethany, Louisiana.

Police say Bently was then hit multiple times by upwards of five vehicles.

Lane was transported for standard testing.

The crash remains under investigation as authorities continue working to determine the exact cause of the crash as well as identify other drivers involved in the accident.
