Police shooting in Springdale deemed justified

Posted: Updated:

Prosecutors say a Springdale police officer was justified when he fired seven shots at a man during a standoff last month.

The Washington County District Attorney's Office say police acted properly in the incident last month in the parking lot of a Walmart Neighborhood Market. No one was injured in the incident.

According to prosecutors, 40-year-old Rainbow Kilo Rasphoumy pointed what appeared to be a handgun at an officer, who then opened fire on Rasphoumy's van. None of the shots hit Rasphoumy.

Prosecutors say Rasphoumy was holding a black plastic toy gun at the time.

Springdale police tell Fayetteville television station KHOG that the internal affairs case has been closed as a justified shooting and the officer has returned to work
