Centenary gets $1 million donation

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La -

A $1 million donation will create a new academic chair focused on entrepreneurship at Centenary College.

The gift is from the William E. Steger family, a long-time supporter of the private college.

The contributions "will facilitate financial literacy programming for students from across majors, and will support educational activities for our students and the greater public," said the senior director of Philanthropy Margo Shideler. The professorship will be called the William E. Steger Endowed Chair in Entrepreneurship and Free Enterprise.

Steger graduated from Centenary in 1941 and went on to have a decorated career in the military and at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. The Steger family previously established the Steger Lecture Series at Centenary, a discussion series educating students and community members on topics of finance and the free market system.

The gift will enable the appointment and support of a professor from within the Frost School of Business. It also makes possible activities including the Steger Lecture Series and the development and implementation of cross-curricular programming on financial literacy and entrepreneurship for all Centenary students.
