July 4th travel down, despite low gas prices

Posted: Updated:

AAA reports that around 34 million Americans took to the roads for Independence Day travels. That's down a few percentage points from last year, even with lower gas prices. The national average at the pump is below $3.50. Reports indicate that's only because fuel demands are down, but current prices are the third highest for a Fourth of July weekend. It seems some summer travelers who did hit the roads just aren't letting gas prices keep them down.

"Absolutely! I mean, you don't want to be trapped because of gas prices," Tammy Young said. "I mean, you don't want to live your life in your house. You still want to go and do. You just cut back in other areas."

Locally, it seems most gas prices fall below $3.30. The lowest being $3.13, that's according to gasbuddy.com.
