Searcy church plans barefoot service

Posted: Updated:

The congregation of a Searcy church is being encouraged to show up barefoot for Sunday services.

Watermark Church leaders are planning a "Barefoot Sunday" service to highlight the needs of the needy and to ask the congregation to donate new shoes. The shoes will be given to the faith-based nonprofit Convoy of Hope based in Springfield, Mo.

Music pastor David Bunting told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that the goal is to show how many people worldwide go without shoes every day.

Church officials say a similar shoe collection a year ago brought in 200 donations and they're hoping for 400 pairs of new shoes this year.

The service is planned for 10 a.m. Sunday.
