Child drowns at Grand Bayou Resort

According to Sheriff Glen Edwards, Red River Parish Sheriff's deputies have recovered the body of a 5 year old Natchitoches girl at Grand Bayou Resort in Coushatta, LA.

At approximately 1823 hours a call came in to the Red River Parish Sheriff's Office reporting a missing child or possible drowning at Grand Bayou Resort. Family members were unable to locate the child and were concerned that she had wandered off or was possibly in the water.

 Red River Parish Sheriff's Deputies and Red River EMS were dispatched to the scene. At approximately 1830 hours deputies arrived on the scene and, with the help of volunteers and Red River EMS, began a search in the swimming area and surrounding areas on land.

At approximately 1853 an unresponsive child was located in 4 to 5 feet of water in the designated swimming area. After unsuccessful attempts by medics to revive the child, she was transported to the Christus Coushatta Emergency Room. After continued attempts to revive the child, she was pronounced dead at 1920 hours.

The incident is being treated as an accidental drowning however the investigation is still ongoing. The name of the child is not being released as notification of next of kin is still in progress.
