A local man has lost his battle with Nijmegan Breakage Syndrome, a rare chromosomal disorder; so rare that in 2007 there were only 130 documented cases in the world.

Danny Horton tells KTBS 3 News that his son, Adam, passed away Tuesday. Back in 2007, when Adam was just 18 years-old, he had already underwent 14 surgeries. While saddened by their loss, Adam's parents say that it was a miracle Adam achieved as much as he did.

"I fee like for whatever reason, I was chosen to be his mother and I can't be more thankful for that" Adam's mother, Susan, told KTBS 3 News a few years ago.

When Adam was born, doctors told his parents that Adam would never walk, talk or be toilet trained and that he would never feed himself. Basically, that he would never be more than an infant. Danny and Susan didn't buy that, instead, they treated Adam like any other child.

Adam loved camping and hunting with his father and was very good at sports too. Adam's personality seemed to inspire and help others who are different.

Danny Horton described his son as a "kind, big hearted person."

Adam Horton's life will be celebrated on Sunday, July 21, at 1 p.m. the Old Taylortown Store.
