Crash survivors say thank you to helpful strangers

Posted: Updated:

This past Thursday, we brought you a story about a four car accident along Bert Kouns Industrial Loop. It sent four people to the hospital and left a frightening scene. The Follis family survived with only minor injuries and received a lot of help from strangers. Now, they wish to say thank you.

Ashley Follis says she and two other cars were stopped for traffic light at the Bert Kouns and Flourney Lucas Road intersection. A speeding SUV slammed into the back end of her car. It sent the car cart-wheeling into the others before coming to a stop upside down. Follis says her three-year-old daughter was in a back seat.

"I never heard a peep out of Dustie," Follis said. "Not one whine or cry. That's what scared me."

The family was left upside down, cut up and dazed. Follis only managed to remain calm because of helpful strangers. She says two women watched her daughter or comforted her as they waited for first responders. One man held her hand and wiped dirt and blood from her face.

"He stayed with me the whole entire time until the EMTs got there, holding my hand and trying to calm me down," Follis said. She says she still doesn't even know the stranger's name but is grateful he was there to help.

"I wish I could give him a big hug and tell him thank you," Follis said. "You know, something horrific just happened, but I was actually okay because I had these people. There were other people there that kept coming to check on me, but the three people that stuck out the most, it meant the world to me. I can't put it into words."

Follis says she hopes to pay the kindness forward somehow.
