Keithville's Jeansonne grabs first round lead of Shreveport AJGA

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La -

Some of the best junior golfers in America are in Shreveport this week for the David Toms Foundation American Junior Golf Association event at Southern Trace Country Club. These teenagers, both boys and girls can really hit it and are living proof a player does not have to be be big to have power.

David Tom's son Carter was in the field, but on one hole in the first round on Tuesday accidentally hit a wrong ball, but did not discover it until he was already on the next hole. There was no way to fix that, so Carter Toms had no choice but to disqualify himself.

Keithville's Nathan Jeansonne, who plays out of East Ridge Country Club, was the leader after round one with a 3-under 69 and he's just a sophomore in high school. Jacob Wyatt of Bossier City, who was 3-under through 11 holes, before struggling coming in, ended round one at 1-over, just four off the lead. Shreveport's Phillip Barbaree is in a group at 1-over 73 with Wyatt. Benton's Hayden White ended round one in a group at 2-over.

On the girl's side, only three players are from the state of Louisiana and all three are from Baton Rouge. Sydney Colvin leading that group after hitting a first round 6-over 78. No one under par, but the first round leaders are all even par. Two from Texas, Fuzzy Brooks of Kingwood and Amber Wang of Sugar Land. Kesaree Rojanapeansatith of Thailand also shot even par on the first day.

The tournament continues through Thursday.
