Biomed reveals rehiring plan for LSU Health employees

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La. -

The Biomedical Research Foundation (BRF) and LSU Health Shreveport announced today that current employees of LSU Medical Center in Shreveport and E. A. Conway Medical Center in Monroe will be able to begin applying for positions with the new Biomedical Research Foundation Hospital Holding Company (BRFHH).

The online application period for current employees at LSU Medical Center in Shreveport will begin August 5 and run through August 16.  Interviews will begin August 13 and job offers will be made after the interview process for each department is complete, running through August 28.  Employees will have three days to accept or reject offers from the new entity. After August 30, jobs will be opened to the general public.

The online application period for current employees at E. A. Conway Hospital will begin August 15. Additional application and interview dates will be communicated to E. A. Conway employees by August 2.

BRFHH expects to fill a majority of the hospital positions with current hospital employees. "Not only do we want them to apply, we need them to apply," said BRF Chairman of the Board Steve Skrivanos, who anticipates that about 90% of current staffs of both hospitals will be re-employed after the hospital transition on October 1 at 12:01 am. Employees will have to pass routine screenings, including drug and educational screening, to be eligible for employment. Some may choose to retire or seek other employment.

According to Jay Meyers, BRF Vice President of External Affairs, "All current hospital employees will be laid off on September 30 as part of the transition process and state guidelines.  Those that participate in the application process and are selected for employment by the BRFHH will begin employment October 1."

With the transition date of October 1 now set, the Civil Service process of separating the employees from state service will begin with the posting of a general notice of impending layoffs on August 12. Individual employee notifications will be mailed starting August 14 and final notices will go out September 9. The layoff plan will be sent to the Civil Service Commission for approval.

LSU hospitals around the state are transitioning to private management after federal matching funds for Medicaid reimbursements to the state were reduced last year. BRFHH and LSU Health Shreveport will hold a series of employee meetings, along with one-on-one opportunities to assist employees with the application process and transition.
