Texarkana, Texas names new Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director

Posted: Updated:
Texarkana, Texas -

Texarkana, Texas has a new Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director. Eric Schlotter will take the reigns for both offices.

He has more than 20 years of fire service experience including the last eleven years with the Texarkana, Texas Fire Department.

Eric will also serve as the Director of Emergency Management whose duties will include keeping the city prepared for the next natural disaster and any unforeseen emergency situation that may require the response of all city departments and regional agencies.

City Manager John Whitson said, "Eric was recommended by a team of senior staff interviewers  who sifted through a number of applications from regional and local candidates.  While a number of the applicants were fully qualified for the position Eric demonstrated a passion for the fire service and life-long desire to be a fire chief.  He also demonstrated the traits required to be a team player at the department head level of the city's municipal organization.  He is the right leader at the right time as we begin a major reconfiguration of the Fire Department aimed at continuing the excellent service that the citizens have become accustomed while significantly reducing the total cost of the operation."

Eric Schlotter currently holds several certifications with the Texas Commission on Fire Protection which includes Advanced Firefighter, Advanced Arson Investigator, Level III Instructor, Fire Officer  II, and Hazardous Materials Technician. He is a certified Paramedic with the Texas Department of State Health Services and a licensed Peace Officer with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers. In addition to his certifications Eric is in the process of completing the Texas Fire Chief's Academy.

In regard to his new position Eric has said "I am honored to have been selected as the Fire Chief of such a fine organization. I take great pride in serving the community where my family lives. The future is bright for our organization, and I look forward to leading the department as we continue to deliver the highest quality service to the citizens of Texarkana in the most efficient and effective manner possible."

We've been told by many veterans that they receive quality care at the V.A. hospital in Shreveport. But for some getting an appointment to see their caregivers is the challenge. We’ve uncovered concerns, however, over how their numbers look so good - while patients are still waiting to be seen.“Certainly from my viewpoint here, as a veteran, as a physician, the c...

Ever since allegations that veterans died waiting for care came out of phoenix, we've all been asking, why, and how could an organization aimed at helping our servicemen and women foster an atmosphere where this has gone on for so long?
