Concrete Repair Work For Shreveport

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, La -

More street repairs in the works for Shreveport. City officials have a plan before them to help alleviate some of the bumps people hit on some of our busiest streets.

Maurice green is an independent contractor for FedEx. He says he's spending thousands of dollars on maintenance for his delivery trucks just from driving up and down Shreveport's streets. "Jewella has some spots on it that are really horrible. You feel like you're on a ramp and it'll mess your tires up really bad. I see construction crews everywhere, but it seems like the job is never getting done. I noticed that they do a lot of patch work, they never go in and just fix the problem."

Jeff Everson is the Infrastructure chairman for the city. He says our streets have a common problem where two slabs of concrete meet and then get out of place. "Many of our streets you'll notice when you drive down and it'll feel like you're on a roller coaster. It goes bump bump bump, those can be repaired with the joint repair program."

These are the streets on tap for improvement in the repair program. Pierremont Southfield and Hollywood will have 7.5 miles of work done. East Kings Highway will see 4.4 miles. Jewella is up for 6.2 miles and Line Avenue will see 2 miles of work done. That's 20 miles of road that sees a lot of traffic and a lot of bumps. Green says the plan sounds nice but it's time to see results. "I feel like they're doing a lot of construction and it's not going well. I wish they would start a project, get it done, make sure everything is okay and then move on to the next one."

The work will be paid for with money from the SWEPCO franchise fee. It's all been voted on and approved by the city, so all we're waiting on now is a start date.
