Nationals take state, want the world

Posted: Updated:
BOSSIER CITY, La -

The Bossier City Nationals, which just won the city's first Little League state championship since 1971, traveled to Waco, Texas on Wednesday to compete in the southwest regional finals.  Eight teams from seven states will play for the right to represent the region at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Former LSU star Todd Walker, who visited the team at practice on Monday night, said he's seen the team play and knows they have all the tools to win the region.  Walker said a big test will be handling the emotions of playing in such big games in Waco and then even more should they make their way to Williamsport.

Head coach Josh Halbert says he's not sure if the 11 and 12 year old actually realize the experience they have in front of them, but adds, if they can make their way to Williamsport, that's the ultimate for a 12-year old baseball player.

They have their chance beginning this weekend.
