All new for Louisiana Tech football

Posted: Updated:
RUSTON, La -

It's all new for Louisiana Tech football.  New head coach, new conference and a bunch of new players.  On the offensive side, nine starters are gone from a year ago.  New head coach Skip Holtz says he may run an up-tempo offense like Sonny Dykes ran a year ago at times, but Holtz says that often puts a real strain on a team's defense and the two much work together.

Gone are the likes of quarterback Colby Cameron and wide receiver Quinton Patton who led an offense that not only led the now-defunct WAC, but led the entire nation.  A quarterback's best friend is a good running game and new quarterback Scotty Young should have that behind him. Kenneth Dixon ran for nearly 1200 yards as a freshman and will have an even larger role this fall.

Priority one for the offensive minded Holtz will be the defense.  The Bulldogs ranked dead last in total defense a year ago, number 120 of 120 schools.  Last year the offense was good enough to overcome.  This year the two sides of the ball will need fewer extremes in order to get more wins.
